Isando Cell
A workable route for an Isando CNC or laser cell, from sourcing and freight to install and handover on a South African factory floor.

What Isando Cell looks like in day-to-day production
The Isando cell supports factories adding a CNC or laser cell to an existing operation. It covers supplier sourcing in China, freight into South Africa, on-site installation, and handover once the equipment is in position.
For an Isando cell, begin with the part mix, sheet or bar sizes, and the shift pattern the machine must carry. Ekurhuleni workshop conditions matter early, especially transformer capacity, forklift turning space, rigging access from the street, and whether extraction can be ducted without reworking the bay. Import planning also changes if the machine lands through Durban and moves inland by road to Isando.
Send clear photos from the machine position back to the distribution board, roller doors, and offloading point. That record is useful when checking cable runs, compressed air drops, guarding clearances, and where crates can be opened without blocking production. Keep the image set with the purchase file so the install crew and factory team work from the same view of site conditions.
Isando handover pack
The Isando Cell pack should end with a fixed machine scope, freight method, and a site list for power, air, extraction, and access. It must also show what arrives in the crates, what is fitted during installation, and which checks are signed off before production starts. That level of detail matters more than broad discussions once the equipment is on site.
Before expanding the order, tie Isando Cell to the relevant machine route and the freight record for this import. Ask for a pre-shipment inspection in China that confirms controller spec, tooling, chiller, extractor, manuals, and crate markings against the order. Sourcing requests should cover the machine type, the controller you prefer and the port or town it must reach.
- Power, air, access, and extraction checked
- Crate contents verified against order list
- Workshop photos attached to the brief
Isando site conditions
Isando projects often involve older East Rand premises where door heights, slab condition, and shared yard access can affect offloading. Route planning must account for container delivery windows, truck access around busy industrial roads, and the distance from unloading point to final machine position. Those details influence crane choice, skate requirements, and when electricians can start.
Laser cells need close attention to extraction layout, assist gas storage, and safe placement of chillers away from heat build-up. CNC installations need the right foundation condition, coolant handling, chip removal, and enough space to service the rear of the machine. Power interruptions in Gauteng should be considered when setting the first cutting or machining trials and when backing up controller parameters.

Records to capture on site
Share the Isando Cell brief with workshop photos, target handover dates, power on site, and the faults or bottlenecks already costing you parts. Keep the email subject straightforward.
Write the commissioning notes while levelling readings, axis tests, and first-part results are still fresh. Include serial numbers, controller settings handed over, consumables fitted at start-up, and any items left for follow-up after production acceptance. That file supports maintenance planning and gives the buyer a clear record of what was installed at the Isando site.
